Are those brave men in hats and cloaks, or statues made by man? Undoubtedly, Cappadocia offers one of the world's most interesting sites.
The triangle between Nevsehir, Nigde Aksaray is called Cappadocia and is located in the south of Ankara
(the Capital). The word of "Cappadocia" inherited from Persians, meaning Land of Beautiful Horses.
This region has been always been important for all ruling empires of Anatolia in the history namely Hittites, Phrygians, Persians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljcuks and Ottomans.
The violent eruptions of the volcanoes Erciyes and Hasan long ago covered the plateau with tuff, a soft stone comprised of lava, ash and mud. The wind and rain have eroded this brittle rock and created a spectacular surrealistic landscape of rock cones, capped pinnacles and fretted ravines. In colors that ranged from warm reds and gold to cool greens and grays.
After the 7th century the inhabitants, in the need of protection against the invaders built the underground cities. These rocks have been shelter, home and place of worship to people for many centuries.
Apart from cultural attractions and natural beauties with its infra and superstructure for incentive and special interest programs & meetings, Cappadocia became a preferred destination.
The new airport opened in 1999 made the region an accessible one and only 1 hour flight from
Istanbul.
